High-Intensity Innovation

Also known as High-Intensity Discharge (HID) or Xenon lamps, these advanced bulbs deliver exceptional brightness and efficiency, making them a popular choice for premium and performance vehicles. Unlike traditional filament bulbs, HID lamps use an electric arc and xenon gas to produce a powerful, pure white light that closely mimics daylight, improving visibility, safety, and driver confidence in all conditions.

Every ELTA HID lamp is precision-engineered and E-mark approved, offering true OE-matching quality and reliability. By combining cutting-edge technology with our decades of aftermarket expertise, we Champion the Aftermarket with a range that empowers independent factors, workshops, and technicians to deliver the same exceptional performance drivers expect from premium vehicles.

I.D. Your HID

There are currently eight main types of HID (xenon) lamp in use across vehicles, each defined by a different combination of voltage, wattage, and base design. Some are fitted with masks for use in reflector optics, while others are unmasked for projector systems. To avoid incorrect installation, every base is uniquely designed with precisely positioned notches, ensuring that only the correct lamp type can be fitted to the intended application.

Replacing HID: Easy as 1, 2, 3

HID lamps operate at high voltage, so care must always be taken when handling or replacing them. By following a few simple safety precautions and the correct replacement steps, technicians can complete the job quickly, confidently, and above all, safely.

1. Safety First

  • Don’t be put off by fears over high voltage — HID replacement is straightforward if you follow three simple safety steps:

    • Switch off ignition and remove the key

    • Turn off lights at the switch

    • Remove the fuse(s) for lighting to isolate the HID circuit

2. (Un)Plug and Play

  • Access the bulb following the manufacturer’s guidelines (typically via the headlight rear, headlight removal, or wheel arch).

  • D1 & D3: Pull out power connector → Twist connector 45° → Release clasp → Replace bulb

  • D2 & D4: Release clasp → Replace bulb

3. Flip & Reverse

  • Always replace HID bulbs in pairs for even colour temperature and brightness.

  • Reverse the removal process to refit.

  • Check headlights for function, levelling, and alignment before road use.
