Washer pumps are small but hard-working components, and a number of common issues can lead to failure:
Blockages – dirt, debris, or frozen washer fluid clogging the pump or jets
Electrical faults – corroded connectors, damaged wiring, or worn motor brushes
Seal deterioration – age-related wear allowing fluid leaks and loss of pressure
Overheating – running the pump dry when the washer bottle is empty
Physical damage – impact or vibration causing cracks in the housing or misalignment
No fluid delivery when operating the washer stalk
Washer fluid dribbling instead of spraying forcefully
Unusual buzzing or grinding noises from the pump
Intermittent operation (works sometimes, fails others)
Washer system fuse repeatedly blowing
Check for frozen or blocked lines before replacing the pump.
Always use correct washer fluid — not plain water — to prevent freezing and internal corrosion.
Inspect electrical connections for corrosion or loose terminals.
When replacing, flush the washer tank to remove dirt or debris that could damage the new pump.
Prime the system by running the pump after fitting to ensure even spray.
