DVLA Cuts Red Tape for Classic Car Enthusiasts, Great News for Pride Customers!

Great news for classic car lovers across the UK, especially for the Pride community! On 20 August 2025, the DVLA unveiled new registration policies making it simpler than ever to restore, modify, or electrify your cherished vintage vehicles.

What’s Changing?

  • No need to notify the DVLA for like-for-like repairs or restorations, so long as the vehicle looks the same as when it was manufactured and your V5C remains unaltered.
  • Modified vehicles (even EV conversions) can retain their original VIN and registration number, with only a notification to DVLA required.

These changes will take effect from Tuesday, 26 August 2025, when full guidance will be available on: gov.uk/vehicle-registration

Why It Matters for Pride

With Pride, our classic car parts brand, we know the importance of preserving a car’s identity. Whether you're restoring a beloved classic or upgrading it with modern components, this move by the DVLA helps protect the provenance and originality that define your ride.

  • Reduced paperwork means more time under the bonnet. You can focus on sourcing the perfect parts, such as those from Pride, without being bogged down by red tape.
  • EV conversions just got easier. Electrification is growing, and now your pride and joy can go greener while keeping its heart intact.
  • Original identity preserved. Whether you’re building your masterpiece piece by piece or breathing new life into a barn-find, this helps you retain that authentic registration and VIN.

What the Experts Say

The policy changes came after a Call for Evidence in 2024, which gathered over 1,350 responses from classic car owners, clubs, and the wider historic vehicle sector. Their feedback was instrumental in driving these modernised, pragmatic reforms.

These DVLA updates are a big step in the right direction; streamlining restoration, encouraging innovation, and safeguarding the history of Britain’s classic vehicles. For Pride and our customers, it means one thing: more joy in the journey and less hassle in the paperwork.

Have a restoration or maintenance project planned? Pride’s parts are precision-made to help you keep your classic running—and looking—its best.
