Why Do They Fail?

Fuel injectors may fail due to:

• Carbon build-up or clogging caused by poor fuel quality, injector deposits, or repeated short journeys.
• Internal wear of the nozzle, pintle, or seals, leading to poor fuel atomisation or leakage.
• Electrical faults within the injector solenoid, connector, or wiring harness.
• Fuel contamination from dirt, rust, or water entering the fuel system.
• High operating pressures in direct injection engines, which can accelerate component wear over time.

Symptoms of Faulty Fuel Injectors

• Misfiring or rough idle caused by uneven fuel delivery.
• Hard starting or extended cranking before the engine fires.
• Poor acceleration or hesitation, particularly under load.
• Strong fuel smell resulting from a leaking or stuck-open injector.
• Increased fuel consumption due to inefficient combustion.
• Check Engine Light (MIL) illuminated with fuel trim, injector, or misfire fault codes.
• Excessive exhaust smoke, often black from over-fuelling or white if combustion is incomplete.
