Trust & Quality for Commercial Vehicles: Why Lucas Bulbs Continue to Set the Standard

When it comes to commercial vehicle lighting, reliability is non-negotiable.

From long-haul HGVs and busy urban delivery vans to buses and specialist off-highway equipment, vehicle operators depend on lighting systems that perform consistently, safely, and compliantly every day. That's why Lucas remains one of the most trusted names in the automotive aftermarket.

With a heritage stretching back more than 150 years, Lucas has been at the forefront of vehicle lighting since the very beginning of motoring. Established in 1875, before the Ford Model T and even before the first Mercedes-Benz motor car; Lucas has played a pivotal role in illuminating roads for generations of drivers.

Today, that legacy continues through a comprehensive range of automotive and commercial vehicle bulbs engineered to meet the demands of modern fleets and professional operators.

Built to Meet the Highest Standards

Every Lucas bulb is manufactured and tested to stringent quality standards, ensuring compliance with UNECE regulations and delivering dependable performance throughout its service life.

To meet the requirements of ECE Regulation 37 and other international standards, Lucas bulbs are engineered to precise specifications across several critical performance areas.

Consistent Colour Temperature

The colour temperature of a bulb plays an important role in visibility and driver comfort. Lucas bulbs are manufactured within strict Kelvin temperature tolerances to ensure consistent light output and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Precise Dimensional Accuracy

Even the smallest variation in bulb dimensions can affect fitment and beam performance. Lucas bulbs are produced to exacting dimensional tolerances, ensuring correct installation and optimum operation in vehicle lighting systems.

Accurate Beam Pattern and Light Distribution

For headlamp applications, beam pattern accuracy is essential. Lucas halogen bulbs are designed to deliver the correct light distribution, helping drivers maintain excellent visibility while preventing glare for oncoming traffic.

ECE regulations specify light output measurements at precise points when projected over a distance of 25 metres, and Lucas bulbs are manufactured to meet these demanding requirements.

Controlled Power Consumption

Commercial vehicle electrical systems are designed around specific power requirements. Lucas bulbs adhere to strict wattage limits to ensure compatibility and protect vehicle wiring and electrical components.

For example, a 24V H7 commercial vehicle headlamp bulb must not exceed 75 Watts, a requirement that Lucas bulbs consistently meet.

Reliable Light Output: Luminous Flux

Brightness, measured as Luminous Flux, is another key performance criterion. Lucas bulbs are engineered to provide consistent illumination levels throughout their operating life.

A typical 24V H7 bulb must produce 1,750 lumens, with a tolerance of ±10%, ensuring dependable road visibility for commercial vehicle operators.

Base and Cap Dimensional Requirements

Lucas bulbs conform to IEC 60061 standards governing lamp caps, holders, and dimensional compatibility. This ensures reliable interchangeability across applications, supporting straightforward installation and replacement in workshops and fleet maintenance operations.

Built to Meet the Highest Standards

Compliance is only part of the story.

At Lucas, quality is validated through comprehensive testing programmes designed to assess both performance and durability.

Life Cycle Testing

While bulb lifespan is not directly specified within ECE Regulation 37, Lucas conducts extensive life testing in accordance with IEC 60810 guidance. This helps ensure bulbs deliver the longevity and reliability that commercial vehicle operators expect, reducing downtime and maintenance costs.

Production Line and Batch Testing

Stringent inspection procedures are implemented throughout both manufacturing and distribution processes. Continuous production line checks and batch testing help ensure every bulb delivers the quality, performance, and consistency associated with the Lucas name.

Trusted by the Commercial Vehicle Industry

For fleet operators, workshops, distributors, and motor factors, lighting products must offer more than just compliance. They must deliver confidence.

Backed by more than a century and a half of engineering heritage, Lucas commercial vehicle bulbs combine trusted quality, rigorous testing, and dependable performance to help keep vehicles visible, compliant, and operating safely on the road.

As commercial vehicles continue to evolve, Lucas remains committed to the principles that have defined the brand since 1875: quality, reliability, and innovation that professionals can depend on.
